Spirit of ’69 Award
As explained by Edgar Ang, Chairman of the Awards Committee:
“A lot of people have noted, quite enviously, the unity and solidarity of Batch 69. How significant numbers turn up whenever we hold an event, whether it be a party, a reunion, or a no-occasion get-together. Or how we manage to pull off projects which other batches would not even dream of undertaking. The force that binds us together we call the Spirit of ‘69. It is this spirit which leads batchmates to go out of their way, or selflessly devote time, energy, and resources to help batchmates, reach out to inactive ones and get them involved, or take steps to promote this unity and solidarity.
We decided that it would be fitting and proper to institute the Spirit of ’69 Award to recognize and honor a batchmate’s exemplary and outstanding act, work, contribution, or accomplishment which promotes unity and fosters camaraderie within the batch or generates pride in being a 69er.
We formed an Awards Committee to evaluate nominations and determine recipients of this award. This is an award which will not be bestowed regularly, only when there is a worthy recipient in the collective opinion of the Committee. The award would be symbolized by a plaque. Given the honor and prestige we attach to it, we debated long and hard about how it would look – the material used, its size, the colors, and its contents. We hope it conveys to its recipients the gratitude and recognition of their fellow 69ers.”
